If you’d like to invite her to your area, she’d be delighted to consider it. However, every hour spent travelling from The Hague is an hour she isn’t working with her accounting clients. In that sense, travel time is time she could otherwise spend earning income. For bookings outside the Randstad, The Netherlands (see definition below), she therefore applies a travel fee that fairly covers both her time and the practical costs of the journey, such as mileage, fuel, and vehicle expenses.
At first glance, that travel fee may seem like quite an addition to an already premium booking. That’s a perfectly understandable thought. The easiest way to avoid it is to plan your rendezvous the next time you’re in the Randstad area. But if that isn’t possible, or if you’d simply love for her to come to you, here’s exactly how her travel fee works.
For an exclusive booking outside the Randstad, the Netherlands, O’Neill charges a single travel rate of €2,36 per kilometre on the round-trip distance, on top of the €850 2-hour booking fee. One rate, the same for every destination. You are not charged more per kilometre for being further, the distance simply does the work.
What is the Randstad?
The Randstad is the connected urban area in the west of the Netherlands, covering Utrecht, Zuid-Holland and the southern part of Noord-Holland. It includes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht, which together form a ring of major cities around the Green Heart, the open landscape at the centre of the region.
What is the travel fee within the Randstad?
O’Neill applies a standard travel fee of €90 for bookings within the Randstad. The only exception is the inner city of Amsterdam, where the travel fee is €130. This is due to the more complicated and costly parking situation, which often means she needs to take an Uber for the final part of the journey. A little extra effort, perhaps but always with the aim of arriving relaxed, polished, and ready to meet you.
What the rate covers
The €2,36 per kilometre carries two costs, both already including 21% VAT:
Travel time, around two thirds of the rate. The hours on the road are hours I cannot spend with one of my accountancy clients, charged at €133 per hour. Distance converts to time at an average door-to-door speed of 85 km/h, which is realistic once city exits, ring roads and parking are counted.
Vehicle cost, around one third of the rate. Fuel, depreciation, insurance, maintenance, repairs and tyres, at €0,79 per kilometre.
